Sinead Greene believes Cavan have no reason to be fairful about facing reigning All-Ireland Champions Cork

CAVAN captain Sinead Greeen is relishing the unenviable prospect of facing an all-conquering Cork side in Saturday’s All-Ireland quarter-final (Birr, 12.30pm).

Last season the Rebellettes clinched their fifth All-Ireland title in-a-row and their tenth in 11 years and are virtually unbackable to overcome Cavan, yet Greene is embracing the opportunity to face off against the best in the business.

The Cavan ladies have made dramatic progress this season and were left to rue a slow start in an otherwise close-fought Ulster final against Monaghan last month, but they resurrected their season with a two-point win over underdogs Laois in the qualifiers.

She said: “[After losing the Ulster final] It was very hard to get up and going again. We know ourselves we were very poor that day. We hadn’t much choice but to pick ourselves back up.

“I really genuinely can’t wait for the game [against Cork], it’s 15 v 15 and you can only go out and try your bet, realistically we’re probably not going to win an All-Ireland this year so you might as well challenge yourself against the best.”
