Steven Poacher – Football is better than ever

Gaelic Footballers are faster and fitter than ever

Steven Poacher is still marvelling at how good Tyrone were against Donegal.

In his column in this week’s Gaelic Life, he explains why the Red Hands are so good, and picks apart the different changes in their gameplan which have been made.

He also suggests that their approach to the game has made it better than ever.

“Whether it is the paying public, the bar stool supporter, rival supporters, the media, we have to stop looking back in our games and start looking forward. The days of kicking the ball aimlessly in the direction in which you are facing are long gone.

“The modern game, as the pundits like to call it, has evolved.

“Be under no illusion, it is no different in Dublin, Kerry or Galway. These counties are all now operating defensive systems.

“The game now is better than it has ever been. Players are faster, stronger and quicker than they have ever been. Every player is coached to be etremely efficient and effective on the ball, whether they are number 2 or 15, every one is a footballer.”
