Pauric Grimes – Give yoga a go, you won’t regret it

AS we continue to adapt to our new schedule and how that impacts on
our ability to train maybe now more than ever is the perfect
opportunity to try a form of training you’ve never done before. My
recommendation? Give yoga a go.

A positive that I’m seeing more and more of is that there is a huge
willingness from people to give things like yoga and pilates time that
they otherwise wouldn’t.

For the first time in our collective lifetimes the one thing we all
have an abundance of is time. The excuse, “I don’t have time” doesn’t
cut it anymore.

Once you’ve decided you’re going to fit yoga into your schedule the
question you’re faced with is where do I get a class to follow?
Luckily, I’ve got the answer for you there too! Our yoga coach at The
Edge, Conor Hackett, is doing a live, free yoga session this Saturday
3rd of April at 10am! All you have to do is search The Edge Sports
Performance and Fitness Centre on Facebook and jump on to our live
stream.

One of the big barriers people are experiencing in getting the most
from their home training sessions is the lack of equipment, but
luckily all you’ll need to participate in our yoga session is a little
bit of space on the floor and a phone or tablet to watch the stream on.

A lot of the warm up and mobilisation work my athletes do pre-session,
both in the gym and on the pitch, is adapted from yoga movements and
chances are you aren’t too dissimilar so don’t be surprised if once
you get going you quickly realise that you’re familiar with some of
the things in the class already.

Goal-setting is a key driver for seeing athletic progress and like
anything new you’ll be met with new challenges and goals to meet right
from the off.

Can you ground your heels in your downward dog? Are you able to
maintain your balance in all the warrior poses? Then there’s the crow
pose. The head stand.

The list goes on and as the unexpected challenges continue to come at
you with each new movement you begin to understand that the real goal
isn’t about completing any particular pose, it’s about being
completely present in each class you attend and absorbing every last
piece of value from it that you can.

That’s a mind-set that then begins to extend beyond the practice of
yoga into everything you do – pour your full energy and attention into
the now whether it’s training, studying or whatever you’re doing and
you’ll get so much more from it!

See you Saturday at 10am for your first online yoga session!
