Successful people have one thing in common – They do the work. Over the next few weeks the club season is going to be starting up. Everyone is going to have aspirations of a big season.
A season filled with success and glory. A highlight reel of spectacular fielding, outrageous point kicking, gravity-defying blocks and moments of sublime skills.
Unfortunately none of that is a guarantee. None of it is owed to you. You are entitled to zero of the above. If you think you are going to get results just by showing up, you’re wrong. Talent alone isn’t enough to get you by. Not by a long shot.
I’m not calling you lazy….but stop being so lazy. It’s time your actions matched your ambitions. Don’t be the guy who looks on enviously at the stranger across the room in the fancy clothes, with the expensive laptop, the chiselled physique and the All-Ireland medals. Applaud them. Aspire to be like them. But don’t be jealous. Just be sure they worked for what they have.
Successful people aren’t afraid of the struggle. They aren’t afraid to fail. They do the things other people aren’t willing to do. And they love it. The early rises and the extra yard, the journey to becoming a champion is often as rewarding as the championship itself.
Successful people will humbly accept help and then generously thank those who give it. I hate the type of people who take others for granted. I hate when someone expects whatever they ask will be done without a second thought, no matter how troublesome it is to accommodate, and then no thanks is given or appreciation shown.
If you want something to happen then you must be willing to do something about it.
If you want a six pack for summer then cutting back on chocolate bars and doing 200 sit ups a day isn’t going to cut it. Get serious. It isn’t just about eating less and moving more. It’s about understanding what you have to do to achieve your goals and then applying it consistently. Don’t just be willing to want to do something, be willing to want to learn how to do it too.
If you want to get faster then jogging along on the treadmill a few times a week isn’t going to cut it. Don’t settle for average results.
If you want to get stronger, then you must be willing to be a little sore after lifting heavy weights. Embrace the pain.
If you want to achieve anything in life then unless you are going to be willing to grind, and make sacrifices and WORK HARD then those achievements aren’t going to match up to your ambitions.
Swallow your pride. Be thankful of those around you. Leave the ego at the door. You are not entitled to anything. If you want results, put in the work. Then, and only then, will you get the success you deserve.
