ST Mary’s, with only that famous 1989 win to their name, are taking on 21-time winners University College Cork tomorrow for the right to participate in Saturday’s Sigerson Cup final against either University of Limerick or holders UCD.
Whle St Mary’s have always counted on using the close-knit feel of their squad to give them an extra few percent, manager Paddy Tally feels it’s a weapon that may not be as effective at the Connacht GAA Centre in Omagh tomorrow.
“UCC are traditionally very strong. They came to Belfast a few years ago and won the Sigerson against Jordanstown with a team of boys you wouldn’t have heard tell of in comparison to the team Jordanstown had at the time.
“That’s the strength of what Billy Morgan brings to UCC. He’s very much into bonding a very strong team together.
“They are close-knit and they’re quite like ourselves only on a much bigger scale.
“They buy into the whole ethos down there and he has Tomas O Se working with him, which is another big advantage.”
