Ulster University set to open campaign at home under new manager

By Michael McMullan

ULSTER University footballers begin their new senior campaign under new manager Barry Dillon on Wednesday at home to St Mary’s (7.30).

Dillon, a former UUJ Sigerson player, takes over from Paul Rouse who remains as part of a management team that includes Benny Hurl and Lee Rooney.

Jordanstown bowed out of the Sigerson Cup last season at the hands of DCU when a late Darragh Canavan goal wasn’t enough in a 2-12 to 2-11 quarter-final defeat.

‘The Poly’ are going in search of a sixth Sigerson title and a first since 2008 after coming closest in their 2014 final defeat to UCC.

Jordanstown Freshers open their campaign with a home fixture against St Mary’s on Thursday (4pm) at home.

Former QUB Sigerson manager Anthony McGrath is on board as Fresher manager, with Paul Mellon, John Farrell and Pat Maguire making up the management team.

QUB have a double header against ATU Donegal at The Dub on Wednesday night. The senior games (8pm) is preceded by a Fresher clash at 6.30pm.
