The Ulster Senior Hurling Championship is unlikely to be played in 2021 despite the three-year ‘shelving’ period coming to an end.
In November 2017 it was decided that the competition would not be run for the 2018, ’19 and ’20 seasons with the situation to be reassessed this year.
Speaking to Gaelic Life, Ulster GAA said that it would be discussed in the near future, but the disrupted 2020 campaign means that the period of postponement could be extended by at least another season.
“The Ulster Senior Hurling Championship was suspended for a three-year period (2018, 2019 and 2020) following the re-structuring of the tiered All-Ireland Hurling Championships for that time period,” Ulster GAA said.
“Given that the third year of the trial period was heavily impacted because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the possibility of extending the trial period is being examined.
“It is expected that a decision will be taken in the near future and this will help inform Ulster CCC’s position in relation to the Ulster Senior Hurling Championship.”
