Thriving Donaghmore form new ‘Thirds’ team

By Niall Gartland

DUE to blossoming playing numbers, Donaghmore are the latest club in Tyrone to embark on fielding a ‘Thirds’ team.

In recent years, Coalisland Na Fianna joined Errigal Ciaran in playing a ‘Thirds’ team in Division Three, and Donaghmore have decided to join them.

The club played four underage finals in the space of just over a week shortly after the return from lockdown last year, and the club decided that the creation of a new team at adult level would encourage their younger players to stay with the club as they move on from the underage ranks.

The team will be managed by clubmen Stephen Donnelly and Pat O’Neill, and they will field in the Division Three leagues and Tyrone Junior Championship later on in the season.

The Tyrone CCC are yet to announce when the leagues will commence this season, but it is looking likely that the action will begin in early May. It is also anticipated that the majority of league games will be played on Friday evenings at adult level.
