Opponents…with Carrickmore ladies footballer Niamh McElduff

Name: Niamh McElduff

Age: 25

Teams played for: Carrickmore, St. Mary’s University, Tyrone up to minor level.

What team have you enjoyed the most success against?

It’s been a real mixture of teams over the past year especially. You’re always doing well to get a win over Macartans, Errigal or Dungannon in particular.

Which team have you enjoyed least success against?

I always found it tough coming up against St. Macartans or Errigal.

Which player have you enjoyed marking?

I enjoyed marking Briege Mullin from Errigal recently in the league because we both played midfield for the county at minor level together so it reminded me of that. A lovely, friendly person!

Which player have you disliked marking?

I used to hate marking Ellen McCullagh from Glenelly when we were younger in midfield because she was always so fast. She used to pretend to be wrecked and then run off when you weren’t expecting it.

Which team or opponents has been the most physical?

St. Macartans.

Which team or player that you have played against were the most skilful?

Niamh O’Neill, Sperrin Óg.

Which team or player that you have played against was the funniest on field?

Aileen Tuohey, Sperrin Óg – I marked her for a while in a league game last year and I think we did more chatting than playing football. She’ll always apologise if she wrongs you in any way on the field.

What’s the most frustrating defeat you have experienced?

A minor championship final against Sperrin Óg ladies that was played in the Rock. I felt as if all underage football built up to that one game and we had a number of injuries on the day including our goalkeeper breaking her wrist in the warm-up.

What’s the most satisfying win you have experienced?

Our recent championship final win against Macartans, my first senior championship medal as a starting player. It put us out in front in the county roll of honour again after a seven-year wait.
