No Ulster GAA invite to Northern Ireland centenary celebrations

By Niall McCoy

Ulster GAA have said that they have not received an invitation to participate in the celebrations to mark the centenary of Northern Ireland.

The divisive issue is set to be remembered in the coming months with a series of events planned including historical studies, tree-planting and conferences. The NI 100 Centenary Committee, on their website, say that they are “planning a celebration of sportsmen and entertainers from Northern Ireland.”

However, of the 38 athletes profiled on their website, nobody from the GAA community is included in that section.

Following a request from a Gaelic Life reader to see if Ulster GAA would be involved, the provincial body said that no contact had been made.

“Ulster GAA has not received any communication in relation to the centenary celebrations,” they said.
