More GAA TV and streaming coverage planned

As the GAA adapts to the reduced attendances at matches, it seems that more coverage is being planned.

This week, Tyrone GAA announced their streaming schedule for the upcoming club championships.

They are planning to broadcast eight Senior Championship matches in the first round of their competition which throws in in just over a week’s time. They are charging £5 per match and the streams will provided through Tyrone GAA TV. They are sponsored by Todds Leap.

Counties across Ulster have been working to bring games to their fans digitally, while crowd sizes have been reduced. Last weekend there were streams in Antrim, Armagh, Cavan, Derry, Donegal, Fermanagh and Monaghan.

A representative from Antrim told Gaelic Life that their streamed matches have been very successful.

In Donegal, there were five matches streamed last weekend. They had around 1500 live viewers while the matches were being played. But the total amount of viewers including live and those who have viewed after the game was played, grew to over 10,000.

Streaming will continue this weekend, as there are matches set to be shown across Ulster.

Down’s championship is due to throw in this weekend and their county board informed us that they are planning to stream three football matches.

There was other broadcasting news announced this week, as Sky Sports launched their weekly GAA show, called ‘Inside the game’.

The show will air every Wednesday from the 19th August on Sky Sports Arena.

Hosted by Brian Carney, Gráinne McElwain and Mike Finnerty on alternating weeks, the show will run throughout the entire build-up to the intercounty championships and right through the season up to the All-Ireland final, and will feature different guests each week, including the Sky Sports GAA analysts.

The big ball will be the focus on the first episode, with Kieran Donaghy and Peter Canavan discussing all the latest news and club action, as well as looking forward to the 2020 All-Ireland Championship.

On alternating weeks, hurling will take centre stage with JJ Delaney, Jamesie O’Connor and Ollie Canning joining the conversation alongside other special guests.
