Sigerson Cup semi-final
Ulster University 1-13 Maynooth University 0-11
A GOAL from Niall Loughlin helped Ulster University into next week’s Sigerson Cup final after a battling performance to see off Maynooth on Thursday night in Inniskeen.
The Derry man hit the net to help UU into a 1-5 to 0-7 interval lead.
Points from Oisin McCann and Ben McCarron pushed Barry Dillon’s side further in front early in the second half.
Two missed goal chances and some wayward shooting gave Maynooth a lifeline and while they came back into the game, they could never get level.
It took points from Charlie Diamond and Darragh Canavan to set up a final meeting with UCD.
Monaghan ace David Garland hit 1-3 for UCD in their narrow in over UL.
The Dublin side also included Ulster players Donncha Gilmore (Derry) and Daragh McElearney (Monaghan)
