Jack McCarron among latest to head for the States

MONAGHAN ace Jack McCarron is one of the latest high-profile Gaelic Footballers to transfer to an American club for the summer months.

McCarron, who scored 3-33 for the Farney County this season, has transferred to Philadelphia club St Patrick’s, and there are a number of other intercounty stars who are also making the trip across the Atlantic.

Donegal’s Peadar Mogan, one of their most naturally gifted footballers, has also linked in with St Patrick’s, while two of the heroes of Tyrone’s u-20 success, captain Niall Devlin and Ruairi Canavan, have also been enlisted by the Philadelphia club.

Elsewhere, Fermanagh and Roslea duo James McMahon and Darragh McGurn have left for the states. The pair flew out on Tuesday morning with McGurn heading to Chicago where he plans to play with the Padraig Pearse’s club. It is understood that McMahon is Boston-bound for the summer and the Roslea man is going to play football and incorporate some travelling into his plans.

The aforementioned list of players are among the latest who have decided to head abroad. All-Ireland winning duo Conor Meyler and Michael McKernan headed out a number of weeks ago, as did Kilcoo’s Dylan Ward and Ryan Johnston.
