GOWNA are the team to catch at the top of the Division One table in Cavan at the minute and they are three points clear of their nearest challengers Ramor United having won eight of their nine outings to date.
The one blot on their otherwise perfect record was a 1-12 to 0-15 draw with reigning county champions Crosserlough the last day out when a late goal from Oisin Pierson earned them a share of the spoils.
Gowna aren’t in action over the weekend but face a tough test on Tuesday night when they travel to Ramor and both sides will be keen to keep their unbeaten runs intact, but someone’s record will have to come to an end.
The 2021 county champions have drawn two of their games this season, including a 1-21 to 3-15 tie with Crosserlough last Tuesday.
Ramor led by ten at the interval, but Crosserlough benefited from the gale force breeze in the second half.
Having drawn with the top two, Crosserlough will hope to close the gap when they entertain Mullahoran on Saturday. Oran Rehill rattled the net last weekend against Ramor and will carry that scoring threat up top for Crosserlough.
Kingscourt’s form has picked up significantly in the past few weeks having recorded two wins on the bounce and they’ll hope to improve that run when they take on Lacken, who sit at the bottom of the table, at home this Friday.
They bagged three goals from Cian Shekleton (2) and Kevin Curtis in their win over Mullahoran and again hit the net in their three-point triumph over Cuchulainn’s last Saturday evening.
Lacken are in for a busy couple of days as they also line out next Wednesday evening against the current Intermediate Championship holders Arva. Arva, who currently rest on seven points, are in the same boat as they face Cuchulainn’s on Saturday.
Laragh United are also struggling at the bottom end of the table and have lost their last four matches, including hefty hammerings by Kingscourt and Crosserlough. They are on the road this weekend as they take on Lavey.
Ballinagh will be eyeing up a fourth win of the campaign when they host Castlerahan this weekend. Just two points separate the sides in the league table, although Ballinagh have played a game extra.
