Gaelic Life team of the week

THERE was glory for Fermanagh on Sunday as Eimear Smyth led their charge for All-Ireland silverware.

Tyrone came up short in their decider as – bar Niamh Mallon playing for Galway this Sunday – the curtain came down on Ulster’s interest in the intercounty scene.

Now the full focus switches to club action.

Here is our selection…

1 MEGAN MAGUIRE Fermanagh

Her fine first-half save from Lucy White ended up being extremely crucial.

2 CIARAN BRADLEY Burt

Excellent performance as Burt defeated St Eunan’s in their Donegal SHC semi-final.

3 RYAN WARD Errigal Ciaran

Showed very well as Errigal got the better of Pomeroy.

4 EAMON CASSIDY Sleacht Néill

Star turn as Sleacht Néill inflicted a rare championship defeat on Glen.

5 DECLAN SMITH Lámh Dhearg

A couple of scores in their comfortable win over Naomh Éanna. Nearly set up a goal.

6 CADHLA CARA BOGUE Fermanagh

Vital clearance to go with a fine defensive display on a great day for the Erne County.

7 SHEA DOWNEY St Brigid’s

Got forward for two points in the ultimately hard-fought win over St Gall’s in awful conditions.

8 DERMOT MCERLAINE Moneyglass

Scored the crucial penalty – just – as Moneyglass picked up a valuable SFC win over Glenravel.

9 CONOR MCATAMNEY Swatragh

1-2 from midfield as Swatragh overpowered Dungiven.

10 LIAM O’BRIEN East Cavan Gaels

The Waterford native starred as East Cavan Gaels won their first Breffni title.

11 MICHAEL DORRIAN Ballygalget

His goal kept his side honest and a late flurry saw them fend off Ballycran.

12 SHANE HEAVRON Magherafelt

Caused Steelstown all sorts of problems from start to finish.

13 CHLOE MCCAFFREY Tyrone

May have missed at the death, but was Tyrone’s brightest spark in their surprise final loss to Leitrim.

14 EIMEAR SMYTH Fermanagh

Lit up Croke Park with 1-9 of Fermanagh’s 1-11 in their All-Ireland triumph at Croke Park. Need we say more?

15 CIAN MCCONVILLE Crossmaglen

Just off All-Ireland duty and bagged a brace of goals against Killeavy.
