FERMANAGH manager CJ McGourty said his ladies side were “far the superior team” as they edged an eight-goal thriller against Longford on Sunday to make it three league wins from four games as they prepare for Sunday’s trip to Wicklow.
The Erne ladies are sitting second in the Division Four table after their 4-14 to 4-8 win at the weekend and they’re in contention for a promotion place as they aim to bounce back up to the third division.
“We were far the superior team, it’s as simple as that,” McGourty said of the Longford win.
“I was saying to the girls there, we’re going to use people for the next two or three weeks to see exactly where we’re strong.
“We’ll be looking at the new girls to see their reaction.
“Some of them again, as I said last week, stepped up to the mark, some were ok, some were pretty poor, but that’s football.
“You have to test them out and it’s a bit of trial and error at the minute but we got three points.”
While the Erne ladies are in the top end of the league table, McGourty isn’t looking too far ahead.
“In three or four weeks’ time we’ll look at who’s top of the league, who’s second, third or fourth,” the Fermanagh boss said.
“We’ll not look at how many you beat anyone by or how many you were beaten by unless it goes to score difference.
“At the end of the day we were very comfortable there the last five or six minutes and we won by six points, it was never in doubt at any time.”
The Erne manager knows that there is a lot of room for improvement as they prepare to play Wicklow in the next round of the league.
“Goals are always a concern, we made sloppy mistakes, we’ll improve on it, we’re going to have to look at that area,” said McGourty.
“We were missing Courteney (Murphy) today who was working, it wasn’t ideal, I’m just happy to get the win no matter how it comes about.
“They’re a good side, they probably could have beaten us last year, they’re an Intermediate side.
“So we have it all to do this week trying to get the bodies recovered and make sure the girls come through their college games unscathed as well.”
