Eoghan Rua dual player Mooney putting on a different exhibition

THE Derry club season is in full swing and Eoghan Rua are back in action but Ruairi Mooney has an extra plate to spin next weekend.

A Sigerson Cup winner with St Mary’s during his time as a student in Belfast, Mooney has won championships with his club in football and hurling. There was also a stint kicking ball for Derry.

Below the surface, there is another world. There’s Ruairi Mooney the artist.

An art teacher by trade, he has put his talents to good use. From pictures of Le Bron James to the coastal scenery around his home on the North coast, he has built up quite the portfolio.

After hosting exhibitions over the past three years, Mooney will be in Portrush Town Hall this weekend again for his “Horizon” solo exhibition and sale of work on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

“I am thrilled to share this new collection of work publicly,” Mooney said.  “This exhibition includes some of my most exciting work yet and captures this beautiful part of the world at its best.

“This process has involved a lot of months of preparation in the studio, so I’m looking forward to meeting people to share the collection and have a chat about it.”
