Derry school kids to help build the excitement ahead of Croke Park clash

By Michael McMullan

PRIMARY school children across Derry will have an opportunity to win family tickets for a trip to Croke Park thanks to a competition being organised by Doire Cumann na mBunscol.

Derry won their first Ulster title in 24 years and will play in next month’s All-Ireland quarter-finals.

Following on from schools hosting red and white days in the lead up to the last two games, Doire Cumann na mBunscol have launched a competition to build Croke Park on Minecraft by linking into the curriculum.

It incorporates numeracy, problem solving as well as knowledge of building materials and structures.

Children are in with a chance to win family tickets to Derry’s big game, a signed jersey and a bag of footballs for their school.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for children in schools across the county to work together to develop digital skills across the curriculum,” commented Stephen Barker, Derry’s Head of Operations.

“We are delighted to support this competition which will add to the fantastic buzz around the county after last Sunday’s Ulster final victory.”

The closing date for the competition is Friday, June 17 and the winners will be announced the following Monday.
