ISSUE…There is a debate over Sligo’s last sub

ANTRIM could yet be handed a Qualifier reprieve after it emerged that Sligo had used seven substitutes in Saturday’s win over the Ulster side, although they believe they were within their rights to do so.

The GAA will now be forced to look into the matter with the controversy surrounding Pete Laffey’s 75th-minute introduction in Sligo’s 0-22 to 3-7 win.

Sligo are confident that it was a blood sub, but Gaelic Life understands that the Saffrons are ready to dispute that. The management will talk to their panel before making any move though.

If the GAA agree with Antrim, a replay at Markievcicz Park is a possibility. That is due to a precedent set last season when Laois were forced to replay their Qualifier with Armagh in similar circumstances. Other action in that case could see Antrm being awarded the match or Sligo being handed a fine. If the GAA deems it was a blood sub, the matter will likely be resolved quickly.

Sligo were drawn away to Meath in today’s round two Qualifier draw. Donegal will host Longford, Derry will travel to Mayo while Laois will host Clare.
