Tyrone’s Damian Casey and Donegal’s Danny Cullen make up the Ulster representatives on the 2018 Ireland Hurling-Shinty squad for this Saturday’s annual meeting with Scotland in Inverness.
Hurlers from thirteen counties will have the opportunity to represent their country on the big stage as Ireland look to pick up their first win since a 2-10 to 2-8 win over the Scot’s in 2015.
Since that famous win in Croke Park, Ireland have lost the last two series’ both of which were played in this years venue of Bught Park, Inverness.
Ireland are managed by Tipperary’s Willie Maher and Kilkenny’s Conor Phelan with David English set to captain the side after a historic Joe McDonagh Cup win with his native Carlow.
Only three members survive from the 2017 side that lost 2-12 to 0-15 in the form of Westmeath’s Tommy Doyle, Meath’s Damian Healy and Laois goalkeeper Enda Rowland.
The 2018 squad have been in training for the past few weeks and hold a wealth of experience in the form of Waterford’s Noel Connors, Clare’s David McInerney and Tipperary’s Jason Forde fresh off the back of a break out year this past summer.
International fixtures between Hurling and Shinty teams have taken place since 1896 with the sides sharing sixteen series win apiece.
The 2018 series takes place on Saturday October 20th 2018 in Bught Park, Inverness with a 2pm throw-in.
