Ulster JFC: Rock hammer Glack to reach Ulster last four

Ulster Junior Football Championship Quarter-Final 2019

Rock 2-15 Glack 0-6

From Odhrán Crumley in Owenbeg

Rock have cruised into the last four of the Ulster Junior Championship with a resounding victory over a lacklustre Glack side in Owenbeg.

In a harsh reality, the game was over as a contest after just three minutes of action as, the heavy favourites, Rock hit 1-2 in the opening three minutes of the game.

Conor McGarrity racing through on goal and with the smartest of finishes gave his team a 1-2 to no score advantage.

Midfield dominance laid acclaim to the roll-over victory as the Derry champions failed to win any sort of ball in the middle sector.

Shane Murphy and Enda McWilliams thoroughly dominant, their hunger and ruthless aggression emphasised by the fact that Glack failed to score until first half injury time, the 31st minute of the game.

Rock leading 1-8 to 0-1 at the interval with both McGarrity’s, Conor and Aidan much to the fore on the scoring front.

In the second half, the ruthless edge never relented as Aidan McGarrity rattled the net, two minutes into the second stanza after a fine setup from Aidan Girvan.

The hunger and blocks, the will to put their bodies on the line was clear to be seen from the Rock. Three time All-Ireland winner, Ciaran Gourley set the tone which was followed astutely by every other man in a green jersey.

One worry which runs on from their county final victory over Kildress was the inaccuracy in front of the sticks as they kicked nineteen wides over the course of an hour.

The argument may be that they still rattled up 2-15 but, on another day the chances that present themselves may not be as plentiful.

Attentions now turn to the first weekend in November when they will collide with the winners of Collegeland (Armagh) and Buncrana (Donegal).
