The Bar-Room Tapes – Odhrán Mac Niallais

Fresh off the back of bringing the Seamus MacFerran Cup back to Gaoth Dobhair and with the legendary celebrations that followed, neither man is sure if it’s a Guinness or a Mi Wadi they need.

In this week’s Gaelic Life, the infamous ‘Bar-Room’ Tapes return as Kevin Cassidy sits down with clubmate, Odhrán Mac Niallais.

The chat begins with life in Gaoth Dobhair, the celebrations and how Mac Niallais rose to become one of Donegal’s brightest sparks.

“That’s just the way it is here in Gaoth Dobhair. As you know yourself, Gaelic Games are the heartbeat of the parish and any young lad that is going to play sport around here it’s going to be GAA,” the Tir Chonaill star announced.

Cassidy delves deeper into the making of the stallion we see on the pitch here in 2018, Mac Niallais speaks of this influence his father had on his career.

“Dad was always trying to help me and improve as a footballer. He would always talk about the top sportsmen and how they trained, especially the likes of Dan Carter and Johnny Wilkinson and how they would train kicking wise.”

The two in continue to explore other aspects of the game today including the demands on a county footballer, has the enjoyment left the game and Mac Niallais gives his opinions on the new rules.
