Nowhere to ‘Hyde’ as Tyrone secure controversial draw

Allianz National Football League Division One

Roscommon 1-10 Tyrone 1-10

From Odhrán Crumley in Dr Hyde Park

Tyrone have rescued their first point of the 2019 league campaign in controversial circumstances against Roscommon.

The Red Hands battled back from seven points down as goalkeeper, Niall Morgan landed a stunning score from play to seal the draw.

It was the Connacht men who started brightest and bossed the first half hitting seven scores on the bounce to lead by six at the break on a scoreline of 0-10 to 0-4.

Both Ultan Harney and Cathal McShane spurned first half goal chances as Tyrone’s sole score from play at the break came from full back, Ronan McNamee.

In the second stanza, the Ulster men would mount a comeback as their opponents only registered one score in the half, a goal from Ultan Harney.

From here back by a strong breeze, the All-Ireland finalists mounted their comeback through a Cathal McShane goal and placed ball efforts from Niall Morgan and Peter Harte.

A spectacular score from south of fifty yards, incredibly from play off the boot of netminder, Niall Morgan levelled the sides entering five minutes of injury time.

The home team would win a free in what would have been the last kick of the game and in reality, would have been converted to secure victory.

However, much to the dismay of the home support a hop-ball was awarded after a silly push on Niall Morgan by an opposition player.

The final whistle would follow confirming a draw and in rather fortuitous securing a point for Mickey Harte’s men.
