Monaghan overcome wasteful Fermanagh to advance

All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Qualifiers Round One

Monaghan 1-10 Fermanagh 1-6

From Odhrán Crumley in Clones

Monaghan were pushed to the pin of their collar before eventually overcoming Fermanagh to remain live in this years championship.

It was a case of what could have been for the Ernesiders after Sean Quigley missed a second half penalty while they were forced to play the remaining fourteen minutes with fourteen men after Lee Cullen saw red.

Ryan Lyons’ early goal made it difficult for the Farney men but, they still trailed at the break.

Fermanagh appeared to have every chance of beating their Ulster rivals but failed to take any such chance.

A failed kick-out in the dying embers of the game killed any hope of an upset as Conor McCarthy bounced to rattle the net.
