All-Ireland Football Championship Super-8s Phase Three
Mayo 1-14 Donegal 1-10
For the second successive year, Donegal have failed to reach the last four of the All-Ireland despite claiming the Ulster title.
There was a sense of deja-vu as the Tir Chonaill took on Mayo in a winner takes all Phase Three clash.
Like 2018, the result sent Declan Bonner’s team packing from the championship.
Mayo led 1-7 to 0-4 at the break despite making the brighter start, the Westerners goal could have been deemed fortuitous as Cillian O’Connor punched Jason Doherty’s wayward shot into the net.
One of the first attacks of the second half gave Donegal a lifeline and it was the captain and talisman, Michael Murphy who duly dispatched the kick.
Late scorers from Andy Moran sealed the Tir Chonaill fate as they will be left to lick their wounds over the summer months.
While Mayo progress to face Dublin in next Saturday evening’s semi-final clash in Croke Park.
