Cathal McCarron calls time on inter-county career

Cathal McCarron has today announced his retirement from inter-county football.

Injuries and travelling were the reason’s the 2008 All-Ireland winner cited for calling time on a glittering career in the Tyrone jersey.

The All-Star nominee missed Tyrone’s run to the 2018 All Ireland Final after damaging his knee in the counties first super-8’s game against Roscommon in Croke Park.

McCarron now intends to play for his new club, Athy after transferring from Dromore in February 2018.

In statement posted on social media the 32-year old defender thanked supporters for their “support through the tough times and the good times.

“It’s been an incredible journey and I have some unbelievable memories that I will never forget.

“It’s now time to sit in the stand again and watch Tyrone win another All-Ireland and more importantly spending more time with the family and enjoying some club football.”
