Armagh fall short in Castlebar as Mayo narrowly advance

All-Ireland Football Qualifiers Round Three

Mayo 2-13 Armagh 1-15

Armagh have exited the All-Ireland series after losing by the minimum at the hands of Mayo in Castlebar.

The Orchard County got off to the perfect start as Rian O’Neill rattled the Connacht men’s net in the opening exchanges.

One minute later, Fionn McDonagh beat Blaine Hughes to cancel out the Crossmaglen man’s goal.

Kieran McGeeney’s men trailed by five with fifteen left on the clock with Kevin McLoughlin hitting a second Mayo goal as Rory Grugan blazed a huge goal chance over the bar.

Stefan Campbell launched two huge scores as one separated the sides in injury time before Niall Grimley sent an effort wide in the last action of the game as the Westerners marched on.
