An Dún claim historic first Mageean Cup title

Mageean Cup Final 2018

An Dún 5-13

St. Pat’s Maghera 1-10

An Dún have made history claiming their first ever Mageean Cup title after comfortable dethroning St.Pat’s Maghera at The Dub on Tuesday evening.

Ronan Blair turned in a man of the match display grabbing an eye-catching hat-trick with goals either side of the break sending his team well on their way to glory.

Stuart Martin and Niall McFarland landed the other majors for the Mourne men as Tiernan McHugh netted the Derry side’s only goal of the contest.

The men in red and black led by the minimum at the break 2-5 to 1-7 with Blair continuing to impress, finishing with a personal tally of 3-8.

In truth, the outcome of the game was long decided before the sound of Fiontann McCotter’s whistle brought the game to an end confirming that a County Down side would claim the famous trophy for the first time in it’s illustrious 55 year history.
