Do you know that in last year’s league competition the half back line was the second most important line in the competition.
Only the full forward lines delivered more points in the competition.
So getting the right half back line could make or break your season, and has the potential to win or lose your mini league.
The first player you must consider for your team is Tyrone’s Peter Harte. Interestingly, Tiernan McCann and Rory Brennan scored more points that Harte last year, but that shouldn’t put you off choosing the Errigal Ciaran man. Harte is the first choice penalty taker for Tyrone, and he has licence to bomb forward, so he will score heavily. You just have to consider whether or not Tyrone are going to concede a lot of goals during their time in division one.
Armagh are in division three, but are expected to do very well, and are the favourites to win the title outright and gain promotion. Consider Mark Shields as an option in defence. He scored 47 points during last year’s campaign when the Orchard were relegated. He was part of the McKenna Cup panel earlier this year, and should feature regularly in what is expected to be a well-organised Armagh defence.
Division two promises to be a very difficult division, with so many well matched teams on display. Down and Derry are teams in transition, while Fermanagh have a more settled side. James McMahon scord 44 points in last year’s fantasy football competition and he is worth considering.
Donegal are also a side in transition, but they have form in division one, and are a team that could succeed despite the swathe of players who have retired. IF they go well, then half back Eoin McHugh will be one of the players scoring.
Monaghan and Cavan are playing in division one this year, but there’s a good deal of risk choosing any of their players, considering that they should concede goals. But if you fancy a gamble, go with Monaghan’s Fintan Kelly, who is a regular fantasy scorer. For Cavan, your best option is Conor Moynagh.
