Measures are being put in place to help club championships, but what of the leagues?

The National League throws in this weekend and our columnist John Hughes is pleased about it.

In his column in the current issue of Gaelic Life he extols the virtues of the NFL, and points out that there is a lesson that county boards can learn from it.

“The regard we hold the National League now shows that this isn’t because of any lack of quality or excitement inherent in the league format.

“The success story of the National League could serve as a template for reimagining of domestic club league competitons across the country.

“The problem is the fixtures proposals for a restructured club and intercounty season presented by Paraic Duffy don’t seem to envisage leagues enduring as meaningful competitions.”
