Mulholland says GAA/GPA must address drugs issue

FORMER Down player Shane Mulholland has rowed in behind Cahal Carvill’s calls for the GAA and GPA to address the issue of drug taking in the GAA.

Shane Mulholland is the special guest on Episode 12 of Take Your Points which will be broadcast this weekend. On the show, Carvill expanded on the piece that he wrote in Gaelic Life last week which suggested that drug taking among GAA players was rife, and many players’ were risking their lives and mental health.

Shane Mulholland, a former Down player and Queen’s manager, agreed with Carvill and said that he thinks that the GPA and GAA could do a whole lot more to help those players who are in trouble.

The issue of drugs was not the only topic discussed on the show. Mulholland also talks about his recent feature interview with Andy Watters in the Irish News, in which he recalls his playing career and how he decisions he made as a young man led to him missing out on a career as soccer player, and how he also
made mistakes when he was a Down player.

There is also a long discussion about the club championship.

Watch the show this weekend as it is broadcast on NVTV channel (channel 7 in greater Belfast) on Friday 20:15, and then Saturday at 19:30 and Sunday at 17:45. The show is also posted on the nvtv.com website, or the Gaelic Life Website.
