Armagh on the hunt for new manager

EXIT…Sylvester McConnell has stepped away as Armagh boss

ARMAGH are on the hunt for a new hurling manager after Sylvester McConnell’s decision to step away.

The popular Middletown man took charge in Janurry 2015 and oversaw one of the county’s most successful periods ever.

The highlight of that was undoubtedly the Division 2B final win over Down last year although three Nicky Rackard final defeats proved a lowpoint.

“Armagh County Board have been notified by Armagh Senior Hurling manager Sylvester McConnell that he has stepped down from his position as senior county manager,” Armagh said in a statement.

“Armagh County Board would like to sincerely thank Sylvester and his backroom team including John Crossey, Gabriel O’Kane, Kiernan Nugent and James Doyle for all their efforts, dedication and commitment.

“Under Sylvester Armagh gained some very significant achievements, most notably the NHL Div 2B final win over Down in Dowdalshill last year, when Armagh gained promotion to Division 2A of the National Hurling League.

“In addition, Sylvester led Armagh to three consecutive Nicky Rackard finals and two Ulster Senior Hurling finals during a period of sustained hurling development.
“We would like to wish Sylvester every success in his future endeavours.”
