Ulster trio as Antrim, Cavan and Down pick up league victories

In Division One, Cavan have added further spice to the mix at the bottom of the table with a spirited win over Roscommon.

The Breffni men opted to play against the breeze in the first half but led at the interval 1-7 to 0-8 courtesy of Conor Madden’s goal.

Madden would register a second major before the Connacht men’s challenge fell futile.

Roscommon went down to fourteen in the second half as Ultan Harney saw red, the Ulster men taking full advantage through Martin Reilly who struck a second major.

In the end, it was Cavan who picked up their first league points of 2019 to move off, of the bottom spot but still occupy the relegation spots.

In Division Two, Donal O’Hare netted a hat-trick to guide Down past Longford in Pearse Park.

O’Hare’s goal proved the catalyst of a low scoring first half as the Mourne men led 1-4 to 0-3.

The Burren forward struck two further second half goals to complete a triumphant hat-trick.

But Paddy Tally would be praising his goalkeeper as Rory Burns made a number of saves before stopping a Michael Quinn penalty, twelve minutes from time.

The win now leaves the Mourne men in the promotion spots in score difference with three games left to play.

In Division Four, Antrim overcame the loss of Patrick McBride to a red card in order to pick up their first league win.

Ryan Murray’s first half penalty set the Saffron’s on their way to victory over London in Corrigan Park.

David Dunne hit the net for the Exiles but late scores from Murray and Ruairi McCann secured the points.
