NIALL Sludden had a debut season to remember with Tyrone, culminating in an Ulster title and a richly deserved All-Star nomination in 2016.
Speaking in today’s Gaelic Life, the Dromore man is determined not to rest on his laurels as the Red Hands target a sixth McKenna Cup on the trot, beginning in Sunday’s clash against Cavan.
Tyrone’s desire to win the McKenna Cup is perhaps best illustrated by the fact that few players are afforded the luxury of resting completely over January. Sludden has one eye on Mickey Harte’s latest batch of recruits and isn’t letting his guard down.
“I have my first year over with Tyrone and am looking forward to having that experience behind me. But you’re up against a high level of competition within the squad, a number of new players are coming in to impress and when you do get the chance it’s a case of making the most of it.
“I got a bit of a break in October with the club. Any time you get out to play is precious and you appreciate the time on the pitch especially after my previous injury prblems. There was a week or so to recharge the batteries mentally and physically over Christmas.”
