Tyrone regained their Ulster title comfortably yesterday, beating Down by 2-17 to 0-15.
The Mourne men were able to stick with Tyrone during the first half thanks to some big scores and hard tackling. They could have went in leading at half time had Darragh O’Hanlon hit the net, but his shot edged agonisingly wide for the Down fans.
In the second period Tyrone pulled away. Eamonn Burns’s side was hit with a killer blow when key man Kevin McKernan was black carded off, and then the Red Hands went on a scoring spree which Down could not keep up with. Coalisland’s Padraig Hampsey won man of the match after scoring 0-3 from half back.
Down must now play Monaghan in the qualifiers in just under a fortnight’s time, while Tyrone will wait to see who emerges from round four of the back door.
The reaction on Twitter to Tyrone’s win was one of delight from both players and fans.
