The Ulster Championship came alive yesterday in Fermanagh’s dramatic battle with Donegal.
Rory Gallagher’s side ran out as 2-12 to 0-11 winners, but it was a game in which they had to overcome a number of battles.
They were better in the early stages, but Fermanagh were competitive in the 15 minutes leading up to half time. The big moment of the game was Neil McGee’s sending off when he struck Ruairi Corrigan and was sent off by Maurice Deegan. Fermanagh’s Sean Quigley had his penalty saved, and Donegal went in leading by four at half time.
In the second half Donegal showed their class by cleverly dealing with being a man short, utilising their expert defensive game, and styaing well in front of Fermanagh.
Their key men were Odhran MacNiallais and Eoin McHugh. But they won’t have Neil McGee for the foreseeable as he received a two-match ban.
The reaction from the fans was mixed. Some were outraged by Neil McGee’s actions, and others were impressed by how Rory Gallagher’s men responded to going a man down.
Safe to say Neil McGee deserved his red https://t.co/xIV4jNVFAa

People actually discussing if Neil McGee deserved the Red card. He opened your man with a thump! I’d like to see Fear Manach get the win.

Donegal in control here. Don’t think Fermanagh will come back at all. #eirgaa @eirGAA @whelo35

Who needs 15-men? Certainly not Donegal. They’ve stepped it up in the second half and now lead Fermanagh 2-08 to 0-08. 20 mins remain
