The biggest surprise from the weekend’s Club Championship was the departure of Cavan Gaels.
They were beaten by Cootehill Celtic, 2-6 to 0-10 on Saturday night.
The Gaels had lost to Lacken the previous weekend, and were hoping to get their competition back on track with a win against Cootehill, but the Celtic had other ideas.
They were trailing by just a point at half time, but they were the better side in the second half, as goals from Colm Smith and Caoimhin Carney gave them the advantage.
Gaels boss Anthony Forde tried to turn the game in their favour by sending on Sean Johnston, who didn’t start because of injury, but Cootehill stayed in front.
John McCutcheon scored late on to mak sure of victory.
