Cavan hosted Dublin at Kingspan Breffni Park yesterday in the opening round of the National League and over 16,000 fans turned up to see the spectacle.
There were a number of reasons for interest in the game, the Cavan fans wanted to see the All-Ireland champions in the flesh, but they were also there to witness their team’s first appearance in division one in 15 years.
As expected, their return to the top flight ended in defeat, 0-11 to 0-18.
But Cavan will not feel too disheartened as they showed flashes of good play, and they were also boosted to see Gearoid McKiernan appear as a second half substitute which suggests that he could be back to full match fitness sooner than expected.
The reaction on Twitter was one of celebration at the large crowd, but also some jibes at the Sunday Game for their lack of interest in the Breffni Men.
We turned the Cavan town end into a mini Hill 16 yesterday! Great to see the traveling Dubs take over Breffni like that! #COYBIB pic.twitter.com/jezgAOcAl6
