There were plenty of issues to talk about following yesterday’s McKenna Cup clash between Derry and Tyrone.
Firstly there was the huge crowd that braved the elements to see one of Ulster’s roughest derbies. An attendance of over 5000 proved that the McKenna cup is still a big draw.
Then there was George Hutton’s incredible performance of the National Anthem.
The game was not without its excitement as Derry managed to hit the net four times yet still couldn’t win the game in a tight battle.
Tyrone won by 1-16 to 4-6, a point game, but they deserved the result as they were more capable of splitting the posts.
Ryan Bell top scored for Derry with 2-1, but the star of the match was Tyrone’s Ritchie Donnelly as he scored 0-4 from midfield as he dominated the game.
The game was incident packed, the most contentious of those was Ciaran Branningan’s red card shown to Emmet McGuckin following a tussle with Cathal McCarron. McGuckin was already on a yellow when he got into the row with the Tyrone defender.
Damian Barton was not happy in the aftermath of the game a he said that a lot of decisions went against them.
Here’s the twitter reaction:
FT Derry 4-06 @TyroneGAALive 1-16. Well done to both teams on serving up a cracker in front of a big Owenbeg crowd. Safe home to everyone.
