Saffrons search for sixth consecutive win

By Shaun Casey

ANTRIM have made an unbelievable start to their Division Four campaign, and they’ll be eyeing up a sixth straight win when they welcome Wicklow to the Saffron County on Sunday afternoon.

They are three points clear at the top of the table, with the chasing pack of Fermanagh and Sligo their closest challengers. With two wins over those counties already in the bag, Antrim are riding high.

CJ McGourty’s Fermanagh will be battling hard to join them at the top of the table and they can more or less do so this weekend when they take on Sligo.

The Erne County will have home advantage which should help in that regard.

Derry remain on zero points with nothing to show for their efforts so far but that could change this weekend when they take on Kilkenny, who have also suffered five defeats on the bounce so far.

In Division Three, Cavan and Down are both still in the promotion shake up and the Breffni Blues are top of the table via score difference, with both Wexford and Laois joining them on nine points.

Cavan are coming up against Offaly in round five and will be confident of collecting a further three points as the Faithful County are anchored at the bottom of the Division Three table with four previous defeats.

Down are just below the top trio and they currently sit on six points having lost two of their four outings. They are on the road on Sunday and make the trek to Wexford and a win would see the Mourne ladies join them on nine points.

Donegal remain unbeaten in Division Two thanks to another smash and grab draw last weekend away to Roscommon keeping them in the promotion hunt. James Daly’s side have only won once however, having drawn the other three.

They take on promotion front runners Galway this weekend and the Connacht side have yet to taste defeat. Monaghan are on the same points as their Ulster rivals and they make the journey to Clare this weekend.

In Division One, Armagh are still flying high with four wins from four and look to have one foot already in the Division One league final. They welcome Kildare to Silverbridge in round five, who will be buoyed by their recent win over Meath.

Tyrone on the other hand are more concerned with the bottom half of the table having just earned one win from four games. They’ll hope to improve that record in round five however as they meet Waterford.
