STEVEN Poacher has officially stepped out of the race to become the next Down manager.
The Newry man had been part of a ticket that had him as a joint manager alongside Shane Mulholland, but Poacher will no longer be involved.
Mulholland is currently out of the country and it’s unknown whether or not he will pursue the position himself.
“I’ve decided against it,” said Poacher.
“I just feel there are a few underlining mitigating factors at county board level that still exist unfortunately and it wouldn’t be conjunctive to a good coaching environment which, in turn, will ultimately have an impact on the players.”
