Club Championships are underway throughout Ulster and already we’ve had a big result as Latton beat last year’s Ulster finalists, Scotstown at the weekend.
Latton beat the Oriel county champions by 1-14 to 0-13 in a close-fought battle. At half time Latton were ahead by a point, 1-7 to 0-9. Scotstown had been dealt a blow when Darren Hughes was forced off the field with an injury.
Latton were the better team for much of the second half too, their defence was their strongest area, but they still had to work hard to earn the result. However, things were made even easier for them when Scotstown lost Emmet Caulfield to a red card.
The response on Twitter saw plenty of praise for Latton, and in particular their manager Owen Lennon. The former county midfielder was even tipped as a future Monaghan manager.
All is not lost for Scotstown though, as they still have a second chance of defending their title, they just have to do so via the back door.
Here’s the Twitter reaction:
Congrats to my old midfield partner Eoin Lennon on big CShip scalp tnite as manager for his club Latton v Scotstown. Future County supremo!!
