JASON Sherlock has emerged as a leading candidate to take over as Monaghan senior football manager following Seamus McEnaney’s departure a number of weeks ago.
Sherlock won an All-Ireland medal with Dublin in 1995 and was part of Jim Gavin’s management team that achieved the now famed five-in-a-row of All-Ireland titles.
‘Jayo’ had a decent basketball career and his knowledge from other sports has helped in his coaching styles. Sherlock was credited for working along with the forward division during the Gavin years.
Former Dublin footballer and 2011 All-Ireland winner Kevin Nolan, who has lived in Monaghan and played club football in the Farney county over the past few years, looks set to link up with Sherlock should he get the job.
Interviews are set to be held this week and Monaghan could have a new manager in place before the club championship gets underway in August.
