Cavan stun Monaghan in famous Breffni triumph

Ulster Senior Football Championship Quarter-Final 2019

Cavan 1-13 Monaghan 0-12

From Odhrán Crumley in Kingspan Breffni Park

Cavan have stunned neighbours Monaghan in Breffni Park for their first Ulster Championship win against the old enemy since 1987 at the venue.

Sole Cavan debutant, Conor Brady opened the scoring after just 12 seconds of action.

Martin Reilly turned in a man of the match performance, bagging an early first half goal to send his team into a lead they would never relinquish.

Reilly prised open the Monaghan defence with a spectacular ball towards Conor Madden who was fouled in the area.

Rory Beggan opened the Farney account from a free, but it was Mickey Graham’s men who led 1-8 to 0-4 at the break.

The closest Monaghan would come to their age old rivals was three as an inspirational point from full-back, Padraig Faulkner who was tasked with marking Conor McManus sealed victory for the hosts.
