DARRAGH Cross manager Brendan Mason is hoping that his side can find their scoring touch as they attempt to make it to the quarter-final stages of the Down Intermediate Championship for the second year in a row.

The St Mochais side goes up against Glasdrumman in Newcastle tomorrow night, with the victors going forward to meet Liatroim in the last eight.

Mason believes that if they don’t start positing higher tallies soon, they may miss out on a chance to go up against the Fontenoys.

“We faded a wee bit around this last year against Bredagh and we’re not going too well at the minute either,” said the Loughinisland man.

“Against Shamrocks in the last round we were 1-5 to 0-2 up and probably took the foot off the pedal a wee bit thinking it was nearly over.

“We have looked at the video and talked about it since and we have tried to tell the guys that you can’t do that as this level or you’ll be caught out.

“Too much of the scoring has been left to the likes of Marcus (Miskelly) and Shane Murray and a few others and we’ll be looking for an improvement there.

“In the early part of the season we were scoring well and all six forwards were getting on the scoresheet.

“Just this past while we have been too dependent on Marcus. If he gets an injury or training or whatever you’ll feel it.”
