Enniskillen Gaels lead the way in Fermanagh

By Shaun Casey

ENNISKILLEN Gaels currently lead the way in Fermanagh and they are in the driver’s seat in terms of the favourites to grab the Division One league title. With just two rounds of fixtures remaining over the next two weeks, they are at the top of the tree.

After seven round of league action, Enniskillen Gaels have yet to taste defeat, with six wins. A round six draw away to Kinawley is the only blemish on their otherwise perfect record this season.

To take one step further towards the league crown, they will be keen to see off Roslea, who are in relegation trouble at the other end of the table. The Shamrocks are on three points, with just one victory to show for their efforts.

They are second from bottom, with Belcoo O’Rahilly’s just below them on two-points and on the other side of Roslea are Derryln O’Connell’s who also have three points, so two of the three aforementioned clubs will be relegated to Division Two.

At the top end of the table, Derrygonnelly Harps, winners of seven of the last nine Fermanagh Senior Championship campaigns, are just one-point shy of Enniskillen Gaels and they are hot on their tails ahead of Friday night’s games.

The Harps are off to Devenish, who are safe from relegation but can’t creep into the title race, while Erne Gaels, who are third in the table and two-points off the league leaders, are off to Kinawley on Friday evening.

In Division Two, the top of the table is just as tight with Irvinestown leading the way at the minute with 15 points, but they are closely followed by both Tempo Maguires and Teemore Shamrocks, on 14 points.

Irvinestown have the easier run in compared to the other two, so they’re in pole position to grab promotion and the league title.
