Fermanagh should bounce back against Longford

NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION THREE NORTH

Fermanagh v Longford

Saturday, Brewster Park , 3pm

FORTUNATELY for Fermanagh, their easiest game of the campaign arrives this weekend. After a positive start, and a win over Cavan in round one, they were stunned by Derry in round two.

The margin of the defeat was 19 points, and it put massive doubts on the Erne county’s defence. Yet they now get to play a Longford team that has lost their first two games of the campaign and Ryan McMenamin’s team must play on that weakness.

The team may have to do some soul searching though after their defeat last weekend.

The defence that played against Derry was pretty much the same as that that played against Cavan, the one change was Tiernan Daly coming in for Cian McManus in the full-back line.

Fermanagh struggled to get scores on the board, and perhaps that was an issue flagged up in their previous game when Sean Quigley hit 0-9, six from frees. While Fermanagh fans know the threat that he brings, they also know that they lost some important scoring outlets from previous seasons in Tomas Corrigan. Ciaran Corrigan hit 0-4 against Cavan but he only managed 0-1 against Derry. Tiarnan Bogue was the only other player to find the mark against Derry. It is a lesson learned, and they will be keen to get a good response this weekend against a Longford team who have conceded 1-34 in two games.

Verdict: Fermanagh

SCORING… Sean Quigley has been reliable on scores for the first two games for Fermanagh
