Donegal lost to Kerry by 1-13 to 1-8 in a bad tempered and physical affair, which was pockmarked with stoppages for infringements.
Eddie Kinsella dished out ten cards, including two reds; one for Alan Fitzgerald who was sent off for an altercation with Neil McGee on six minutes, and one for Donegal’s Leo McLoone 20 minutes later.
Both managers said they were disappointed with their discipline.
Twitter was all a flurry though as the TV replays showed the incident that happened between Neil McGee and Fitzgerald.
McGee grabbed Fitzgerald’s hand and then the Kerry player reacted by punching the Donegal player.
As a result Fitxgerald was sent off. The media reaction was swift with Donegal and Kerry roundly criticised for their behaviour. McGee bor the brunt of the chagrin.
But how bad was the game? And is the fall out over-exaggeratd because an Ulster team was involved.
Here’s the Twitter reaction:
Just watching replay of finger incident terrible how the offical can't see that really is disgraceful #kerry#donegal some pine time coming!!

Good game between Kerry & Donegal. In many ways, the league is so much more appealing for players and supporters than the championship! GAA

Listen Donegal, @Niallmacaoidh can't complain. Nor can ye. Simple as that. He knows the score. No way McLoone deserved red. #AllianzLeagues
