Refixed Donegal finals set to go ahead

DONEGAL SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

NAOMH CONAILL V ST EUNAN’S

Saturday, MacCumhaill Park, 2.15pm

FOOTBALL fell a very poor second in Donegal last weekend and the County Board did the right thing by calling off the games following the tragedy in Creeslough. The games are back on this weekend, with the champions taking on a Naomh Conaill side steeped in county final experience. Rory Kavanagh’s men kept their hands on the Dr Maguire Cup after seeing off league champions Kilcar on Saturday. They face the litmus test this weekend in the form of Naomh Conaill who beat Glenswilly to make a seventh final in eight years. It would very well take extra time and a replay. Extra time and penalties? Possibly.

Verdict: St Eunan’s

DONEGAL JUNIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

CARNDONAGH V LETTERKENNY GAELS

Saturday, O’Donnell Park 3.30pm

TWO late points helped Letterkenny Gaels edge Na Rossa and book their final spot after losing to Downings in last year’s decider. Dougie Corbett’s side now face a Carndonagh team with Conor O’Donnell back on board. Conor O’Donnell returned to action with 1-2 to his name in their semi-final win over Naomh Ultan thanks to two goals from midfielder Ryan Kelly. The Gaels had to come from behind to see off Na Rossa (0-12 to 0-10) in their semi-final and got the rub of the green when Conor McBrearty’s disputed point was allowed. If they can sharpen up their shooting, the Letterkenny men could take the title.

Verdict: Letterkenny Gaels
