Donegal break Fermanagh down to advance

Ulster Senior Football Championship Quarter-Final 2019

Fermanagh 0-9 Donegal 0-15

From Odhrán Crumley in Brewster Park

Donegal eventually overcame a defensively minded Fermanagh to set-up a mouth-watering last four meeting with Tyrone.

The Tir Chonaill failed to score for eighteen minutes as the Ernesiders crowded the backline, forcing their opponents to shoot off target.

Rory Gallagher’s men leading 0-5 to 0-4 at the break in a contest that looked to be suiting the men in green.

Questions were raised if, this Fermanagh team could keep up such intensity and in truth, they couldn’t as the reigning Ulster champions turned the screw.

Jamie Brennan turned in a man of the match display with four points while Paddy McBrearty made his return to the fold after a cruciate ligament in last years Ulster final against the same opposition.

The Kilcar man’s contribution of five points against the packed defence aided Declan Bonner’s side to a less comfortable win than the scoreboard suggested.

Donegal will now meet All-Ireland finalists in the semi-final on Saturday June 8th in Breffni Park with a throw in time of 5pm .
